“Fatal Motorcycle Crash Closes M2 in Kent”

Date:

A tragic incident on the M2 in Kent resulted in the death of a motorcyclist following a collision with a car, leading to a temporary closure of the road in both directions. Emergency services were on the scene between Junction 5 (Maidstone, Sheerness A249) and Junction 4 (Gillingham, A278) to manage the situation.

Drivers were redirected following the closure, with those coming from the Port of Dover advised to utilize the M20 as an alternative route. The motorway reopened completely at 5.45 pm.

Kent Police confirmed the fatality from the earlier crash and reported that the motorcyclist succumbed to serious injuries at the scene. The authorities closed the affected junction for investigation, with the coastbound carriageway reopening at 11.26 am.

The M2 in Kent faced a closure on the westbound side between Junction 5 and Junction 4 due to a severe multi-vehicle collision. Emergency response teams from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service swiftly arrived on-site, resulting in the closure of both carriageways initially, though the eastbound lane resumed operation later in the day.

While the M2 eastbound section between Gillingham (J4) and Sittingbourne (J5) is now accessible, the westbound lane remains shut to facilitate ongoing investigations by Kent Police.

The closure of the M2 in both directions between Junction 5 and Junction 4 caused minimal delays for drivers, according to information from the AA live traffic map. Commuters traveling between London and the Port of Dover are encouraged to reroute, favoring the M20 where feasible.

Road users heading eastbound should adhere to the Solid Circle diversion symbol indicated on road signs, while those traveling westbound should follow the Solid Square diversion symbol. The closure of the M2 ensures a secure environment for emergency crews to carry out their duties effectively.

National Highways stated that there is no current timeline for the road to reopen after the morning collision involving a car and motorcycle that prompted a swift response from emergency services. The closure spans between Maidstone (J5) and Gillingham (J4) as investigations continue.
