Ex-husband takes custody of slain family’s remains

Date:

A mother who was discovered deceased with her six-year-old twins was laid to rest without her family’s approval, as her ex-husband, who had a history of abuse, took custody of the children’s remains. Charity Beallis, 40, along with her twin son and daughter, were fatally shot in their Bonanza, Arkansas residence during a welfare check on December 3. The tragic incident occurred shortly after a contentious divorce hearing where Charity sought full custody of her children.

Following the crime, some of the family’s belongings, including framed photos, children’s artwork, and a gold necklace inscribed with the twins’ names, were discarded in a nearby dumpster and later recovered. The ex-husband, Dr. Randall Beallis, had a prior arrest for domestic violence against Charity and was prohibited from contacting her or her family without court permission.

Subsequently, the ex-husband sold custody of the children’s remains after initially being granted joint custody the day before their deaths. Charity’s body was entrusted to her eldest son, John Powell, 24, who laid his mother to rest on December 29, expressing dismay at the situation. He lamented the lack of information regarding the twins’ burial or cremation, noting his distress over the ex-husband’s silence.

Charity had confided in her son about her fears during the custody battle, stating that she felt marginalized by the legal system and left unprotected. She highlighted the challenges victims face in seeking justice and expressed concerns about her safety and that of her children. Her son recalled her apprehension about the outcome if her ex-husband did not comply with her wishes.

In response to the tragedy, Randall’s attorney conveyed his client’s sorrow over the deaths and reiterated his innocence, asserting that Randall had cooperated with law enforcement. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation, with police refraining from identifying Randall as a suspect.
