Keir Starmer faced questions about Donald Trump’s offensive “piggy” remark towards a female journalist on Air Force One last month during an appearance on ITV’s Loose Women. When asked about the incident, Starmer expressed his disapproval and stated that he would not tolerate such language towards his daughter or colleague.
The US President had directed the derogatory comment at Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey while she inquired about his involvement in emails linked to Jeffrey Epstein during a flight to Washington. Loose Women’s Myleene Klass raised the issue to Starmer, questioning whether he would allow someone to speak to his family or colleagues in a similar disrespectful manner.
In response, Starmer emphasized that he would not tolerate such behavior and acknowledged the need to address problematic actions, especially among teenagers. His appearance on the show coincided with the government’s launch of a significant strategy to combat violence against women and girls.
During the program, Starmer acknowledged the presence of misogyny not only in Westminster but across society. Home Office minister Jess Phillips, who introduced the strategy, pledged to implement stringent measures to address the issue, including banning tools that enable the manipulation of images and collaborating with tech companies to prevent exposure to harmful online content.
