A tragic incident occurred as MMA fighter Isaac Johnson, aged 31, passed away shortly after collapsing during a match in Chicago.
Isaac was participating in the Matador Fighter Challenge at Cicero Stadium when he collapsed and was swiftly taken to the hospital at 8:38 pm on Friday, November 22, as reported by NBC Chicago. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared deceased at 12:01 am. Authorities are now investigating his death, and an autopsy is scheduled.
The event was advertised as a high-stakes MMA and Thai fight where local fighters would compete in intense matches.
Joe Goyita, the event’s organizer, shared on Facebook his sorrow, stating, “This is a post I hoped to never make. Last night, one of the fighters in our event, Isaac Johnson, collapsed towards the end of his fight. Medical assistance was provided, and he was taken to the hospital. I learned around 1:30 am this morning that he did not survive.
“I am at a loss for words to express my current emotions. My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and teammates. We await further details from the medical report.”
Mourners expressed their condolences in the comments, with one remarking, “Although I didn’t know him personally, I saw his radiant smile, even moments before his collapse. He was a true warrior until the end.” Another commented, “My heart goes out to all affected. It’s a situation no one wishes to encounter.”
As per the Matador Fighter Challenge website, Isaac was slated to face Corey Newell in a Heavyweight Thai fight on Friday.
The cause of death has yet to be disclosed.
