“10 More Areas in England & Wales Eligible for Cold Weather Payments”

Date:

Cold weather payments have been activated by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in 10 additional postal code areas in England and Wales, bringing the total eligible areas to 451, each qualifying for a £25 payout.

The announcement coincides with a cold spell affecting the UK, prompting several amber and yellow weather alerts for snow and ice nationwide.

In England and Wales, Cold Weather Payments are disbursed to individuals receiving various benefits whenever a region is forecasted to have temperatures below zero for seven consecutive days. Conversely, in Scotland, heating bill assistance is provided annually regardless of specific cold spells.

The latest areas triggered for payments on January 3 have been confirmed by the DWP, ensuring that eligible residents in those postcodes can expect the £25 benefit to be deposited into their bank accounts within days. The payments are typically processed within 14 working days of activation, with no application required from recipients.

Minister for Pensions, Torsten Bell, emphasized the importance of Cold Weather Payments in aiding vulnerable households during temperature drops, highlighting the ongoing efforts to support pensioners, including the Pension Credit uptake campaign and commitments like the Triple Lock that aims to raise State Pension by up to £2,100 in this parliamentary term.
