A man in Louisiana, the US, has been convicted of multiple charges after sexually assaulting a female family member over several years, resulting in her pregnancy. Larry Darby, 61, committed the abuse from 2003 to 2009 when the victim was 12 years old. The victim testified that Darby caused serious injuries, including knocking out her upper teeth and leaving permanent scars on her neck.
The assaults led to the victim becoming pregnant, and DNA evidence confirmed Darby as the father of the child. The case was reopened due to additional evidence, leading to Darby being found guilty of aggravated rape, aggravated incest, and sexual battery. He faces a mandatory life sentence for rape and additional years in prison for the other charges.
Darby is set to be sentenced on January 27. The Caddo District Attorney stated that justice was served despite the case’s prolonged duration. Darby’s prior conviction for assaulting a stepchild in 2022 was also highlighted as evidence of a pattern of abuse. Prosecutors emphasized the victim’s bravery in coming forward, highlighting the importance of supporting survivors and responding to abuse disclosures appropriately.
