Jeffrey Epstein spent his final days in fear and distress in his prison cell, recent revelations have shown. Following a failed suicide attempt, the convicted sex offender expressed concerns about returning to his cell, according to newly released documents from the Department of Justice. Epstein ultimately took his own life in the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Correction Center in New York City on August 10, 2019.
Despite the ruling of suicide by hanging after an investigation, questions surrounding Epstein’s death persist. Documents indicate that Epstein’s brother, Mark, raised suspicions to the FBI suggesting foul play in his brother’s death, although no evidence to support this claim has emerged.
Psychiatric notes from shortly before Epstein’s death depict his despair, with Epstein likening himself to the character Rain Man from the movie starring Dustin Hoffman. It was also revealed that Epstein had previously attempted suicide on July 23, 2019, and expressed anxiety about returning to the unit where he had sustained neck injuries, citing sleep deprivation due to noise disturbances.
Medical records showed evidence of injuries on Epstein’s body, including marks on his neck and knee. Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein’s cellmate at the time, stated that he had tried to revive Epstein and was later cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.
In a separate development, new files disclosed that Epstein’s brother, Mark, had provided an online tip to the FBI in 2023 suggesting Epstein may have been murdered. However, no further evidence supporting this claim has been uncovered.
The release of these extensive files follows public demands for transparency in the investigations surrounding Epstein’s connections and activities.
