Three major high street banks, Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, all part of Lloyds Banking Group, have announced the closure of 71 branches next year. The decision to close these branches is attributed to the increasing trend of online banking among customers. The breakdown includes 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations, and 17 Bank of Scotland sites. Affected customers have alternative options available.
Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland can conduct their everyday banking at branches of any of these three banks. Additionally, they can explore the possibility of utilizing “banking hubs,” which are banking facilities set up in shared public spaces on the high street.
A spokesperson from Lloyds Banking Group highlighted the shift in customer banking behavior, with over 21 million customers opting for apps to manage their finances. The group aims to offer a wide range of choices, combining digital convenience with personalized services. Customers can access banking services at Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branches, utilize the Post Office, or deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
