“Royal Mint Unveils Commemorative Coins for Queen Elizabeth Centenary”

Date:

The Royal Mint has revealed a special collection of commemorative coins to honor the late Queen Elizabeth on what would have been her 100th birthday in 2026. Queen Elizabeth II, born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on April 21, 1926, was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. Her image appeared on numerous UK coins during her reign, symbolizing The Royal Mint until her passing in 2022.

The newly unveiled £5 coin features Elizabeth II’s cypher and St Edward’s Crown at its center, surrounded by foliage inspired by the ironwork of St George’s Chapel where she is laid to rest. The design includes the inscription “EXALTABITUR IN GLORIA,” meaning ‘She will be exalted in glory,’ with 100 beads encircling the design to signify the centenary of her birth.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, expressed excitement about the upcoming coin releases in 2026, catering to various themes and interests. The collection will include coins marking significant anniversaries such as the Grand Prix in Britain, the Zoological Society London (ZSL) turning 200, and the 200th anniversary of HMS Beagle. Additionally, a 50p coin celebrating 50 years of The King’s Trust will be part of the collection, designed to honor the charity’s support for over 1.2 million young individuals in the UK.

In a sustainable initiative, The Royal Mint will introduce 52 gold commemorative coins crafted from recycled gold in 2026. This move aligns with The Royal Mint’s commitment to using sustainably sourced precious metals, with a goal to produce all gold commemorative coins from recycled gold by the end of the year.

The 2026 commemorative sets, available in various finishes, will be accessible through The Royal Mint website from January 2, with prices starting at £39.50. The coins will be available for individual purchase throughout the year, except for The King’s Trust 50p, exclusively part of the Annual Set.
