A new way to access TV channels without a monthly subscription has emerged, expanding options for viewers. Introduced in 2024, Freely initially offered live channels exclusively on select new TVs. Recently, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely into their range of screens. Until now, viewers had to purchase a new television to enjoy live and on-demand content through Freely.
A breakthrough by Manhattan’s technology team introduces the Aero 4K set-top box, enabling access to over 60 free live channels and on-demand content on any existing TV at home. Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K device includes features such as voice search, personalized viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live programs. Users also have access to popular streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix.
Currys has become the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which quickly sold out upon launch. The device will be restocked soon, with interested buyers able to sign up for alerts on the Currys website for updates. Additionally, other retailers like Amazon and John Lewis are expected to start selling the Aero 4K soon.
Competing with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, the Aero 4K eliminates the need for traditional aerials or dishes by delivering shows, sports, and movies over the internet. The shift towards streaming presents advantages such as easier installation without the need for a technician and regular software updates.
The TV landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely reporting a user base exceeding one million. As more viewers transition from conventional TV viewing methods to streaming, the popularity of services like Freely is expected to grow.
