“UK Acquires Cutting-Edge Mobile Artillery System”

Date:

The United Kingdom has recently acquired a new weapon capable of firing eight rounds per minute while traveling at speeds of up to 100km/h.

The innovative RCH 155 weapon system is mounted on a BOXER armored vehicle and has a range of 70km. This cutting-edge technology, obtained through a £52 million contract with Germany, provides a significant enhancement to the British military, drawing lessons from the conflict in Ukraine.

Unlike conventional artillery that requires setting up before firing, this advanced weapon can fire while on the move, making it faster and more challenging for adversaries to counter. With a remarkable operational range of 700km without refueling, equivalent to a journey from Cornwall to Newcastle, the RCH 155 can engage targets in any direction without the need for repositioning, operated efficiently by only two crew members due to its advanced automation.

Highlighting the importance of rapid firing and mobility, Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry, Luke Pollard MP, emphasized that the new artillery system enables the British Army to strike distant targets, move swiftly to avoid retaliation, and engage again. The collaboration with Germany ensures shared test data and facilities, guaranteeing both nations receive top-tier equipment.

Edward Cutts, Senior Responsible Owner of Mobile Fires in the Army, commended the joint effort with Germany, stating that the RCH 155 sets a new standard in mobile artillery by combining potent firepower with swift repositioning capabilities. This collaboration not only equips soldiers with state-of-the-art technology but also enhances interoperability between UK and German forces, crucial for NATO’s collective defense.

In related developments, Defence Secretary John Healey recently reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and mobilizing troops swiftly in the event of a peace deal with ongoing investments. These efforts follow the launch of a new military intelligence service to address escalating threats to the UK, including cyber-attacks, disinformation campaigns, and risks to global shipping routes.
