Asda has been penalized with a £500,000 fine for selling expired products at one of its UK grocery stores. According to a Barnsley Trading Standards spokesperson, despite improvements made post the incidents, including revised checking systems, retraining, and increased audits at the store, the substantial fine of £100,000 per offense serves as a clear deterrent for non-compliance. Cllr Wendy Cain, the public health representative of Barnsley Council, emphasized the commitment to community safety and the expectation for businesses of all sizes to prioritize selling safe food.
