US immigration agents have been involved in at least 26 shootings since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2025. The latest incident, captured in a distressing video, occurred in Minneapolis, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were engaged in their 11th shooting since the start of the term.
A shocking video surfaced today, showing ICE agents shooting an unarmed individual near Glam Doll Donuts in Minneapolis. The footage depicted agents wrestling the person to the ground before opening fire on the motionless individual. This event marked the 12th shooting involving ICE agents this year.
Among the 26 ICE shootings during Trump’s second term, six resulted in fatalities. These incidents have taken place in at least 15 states and the District of Columbia, occurring during various scenarios such as traffic stops, arrest operations, border enforcement activities, and off-duty situations. Both ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are segments of the Department of Homeland Security.
A significant number of the shootings involved officers firing at or into moving vehicles. In a recent report, it was revealed that since July 2025, immigration officers have fired at or into civilian vehicles in at least 13 instances, leading to eight gunshot wounds and two deaths. Notably, some of the individuals shot during this period were US citizens.
The first fatal shooting during this period occurred in Coventry, Vermont, on January 20, 2025, when CBP agents engaged in a shootout near the Canadian border, resulting in the deaths of Agent David Maland and German national Ophelia Baukholt. Subsequent fatal incidents included a shooting in Rio Grande City, Texas, on December 11, 2025, and the shooting of Keith Porter, a Black father of two, in Los Angeles on December 31, 2025.
In various incidents, individuals sustained injuries without fatalities, such as the case of Marimar Martinez in Chicago on October 4, 2025, and the shooting of two individuals in Portland, Oregon, on January 8, 2026. Additionally, there were instances where individuals attempted to flee during immigration operations, resulting in confrontations with officers.
Several shootings led to protests and public outcry, notably after the shooting of a Venezuelan man in North Minneapolis on January 14, 2026, and the incident involving U.S. citizen Renée Good in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. These events have raised concerns and prompted scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement practices.
